The tracking page says delivered. Your buyer in Toronto says the Canada Post parcel never came. Now your Shopify admin shows a Shopify Payments chargeback on that order, the money has already left your balance, and a deadline is counting down. If that is your week, this guide shows how a Canadian store can win a Shopify chargeback with its own records.
Quick answer: To win a Shopify chargeback in Canada, answer the exact reason the bank was given, add the proof only you hold (delivery records, customer messages, your policies and a short chargeback rebuttal letter), keep every file inside Shopify's size limits, and submit well before the due date, which is usually 7 to 21 days after the dispute opens. ChargeFix collects that proof from your store, shows what is missing and files the response when you approve it, so your case reaches the bank on time and complete.
This guide is for you if:
- You sell on Shopify Payments, and a Shopify chargeback in Canada has just landed on one of your orders, or you want to be ready before the next one.
- You ship physical orders with Canada Post or another courier and need proof that holds up when a buyer says nothing arrived.
- You are a one person shop or a small team, and you cannot spend an evening building the evidence to win a Shopify chargeback by hand.

Disclosure: ChargeFix publishes this guide and sells an evidence app for Shopify Payments disputes. Every fact about fees, deadlines and file rules comes from Shopify's own Help Center, and the sources are listed at the end so you can check them.
TL;DR
- A Shopify chargeback in Canada takes the disputed amount and a fee (C$15, or US$15 if you are paid out in US dollars) out of your balance on day one. You get both back only if you win.
- The chargeback response deadline usually runs 7 to 21 days. There are no extensions. The bank can then take up to 75 days to decide, and the decision is final.
- Shopify chargeback evidence wins when it answers the reason for the dispute, puts the strongest proof first, is clearly labelled, and fits Shopify's file rules (PDF, JPEG or PNG, 2 MB per file, 4 MB in total, one file per type).
- Doing nothing still sends a thin response made only of automatic order data. Adding your own proof before the deadline is what changes the result.
- Winning does not remove the dispute from your chargeback rate, so the goal in a Canadian Shopify chargeback is a complete response filed early, and fewer disputes over time.
Do this today
- Open the disputed order and write down the reason and the chargeback response deadline.
- Do not refund the order. Shopify does not allow a refund once a chargeback has started.
- Collect the Shopify chargeback evidence: the delivery record, both addresses, any customer messages and your policy screenshot.
- Decide whether to fight or accept using the checks in this guide.
- File the response to your Shopify chargeback in Canada at least three days before the due date, with every file labelled.

What happens the day a Shopify chargeback lands in Canada?
A chargeback starts when your customer tells their bank they do not accept a charge. The bank does not wait for your side of the story. Shopify's Help Center says the disputed amount and a chargeback fee are withdrawn from your account straight away, and then Shopify alerts you with a deadline to respond.
For a Shopify chargeback in Canada that fee is C$15, or US$15 when your payouts are in US dollars. Here is what day one of a Shopify chargeback in Canada looks like on a C$87 order paid out in Canadian dollars.
| Item | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Disputed amount | C$87.00 | Withdrawn on day 0 |
| Chargeback fee | C$15.00 | Withdrawn on day 0 |
| Total out of your balance | C$102.00 | Day 0 |
| If you win | C$102.00 comes back | In your next payout after the decision |
The notice goes to your store contact email. Check Settings, then Store details, and make sure that inbox is one a person reads every day. A missed email is the cheapest way to lose a Shopify chargeback in Canada.
What is the chargeback response deadline, and what happens if you wait?
The chargeback response deadline is typically 7 to 21 days after the dispute is filed. The exact date shows on the chargeback banner in your Shopify admin, in your store's time zone. If no time is shown, the deadline is 11:59 PM on that date. Shopify is blunt about this: after the deadline passes you cannot submit more evidence, and there are no exceptions.
Once you submit, the card company can take up to 75 days to decide. It then rules in your favour, in the customer's favour, or splits the amount. Nobody at Shopify can reverse the ruling, and you cannot appeal it.
Your choices on a Canadian Shopify chargeback before the due date look like this.
| Your choice | What goes to the bank | Can you still edit? |
|---|---|---|
| Do nothing | Only the order data Shopify adds automatically, sent on the due date | No, the date passes |
| Add evidence, save, and wait | Your evidence plus the automatic data, sent on the due date | Yes, until the due date |
| Click Submit now | Your saved evidence plus the automatic data, sent right away | No, it locks |
| Accept the chargeback | Nothing | Only by contacting Shopify Support before the deadline |
Doing nothing on a Shopify chargeback in Canada does not mean sending nothing. On the due date Shopify submits the order information it already holds: product details, addresses, your IP data, fulfilment and tracking details, refunds and earlier orders. That is a bare minimum. It cannot contain your customer emails, a delivery photo outside the tracking file, proof that the customer accepted your policy at checkout, or a plain explanation of why the claim is wrong. Those are the items only you can add, and they decide whether you win a Shopify chargeback.
That gap is the reason people use ChargeFix. It pulls the records together before the clock runs out, marks what is missing, drafts the letter and files it when you approve, so your Shopify chargeback in Canada reaches the bank as a full case rather than the minimum.
Treat 7 days as your real chargeback response deadline, even if your banner shows more. A case that is ready on day 4 survives a sick day, a lost login and a courier website that is down. A case started on day 6 does not.
Should you fight this Shopify chargeback in Canada or accept it?
Start with the money. If you lose a fight or accept, you lose the disputed amount and the fee. If you win a Shopify chargeback, you get both back. So a lost fight costs nothing extra beyond your time, and the question is mostly about time and honesty.
Fight a Shopify chargeback in Canada when you have a real answer to the customer's claim. Accept when the customer is right, because a weak case wastes an evening, and an honest refund practice is part of keeping disputes low.
| What you see | Lean toward | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The carrier shows delivery to the address on the order | Fight | This is direct proof, the strongest kind |
| The customer messaged you after the delivery date about the product | Fight | It shows they have the item |
| Billing and shipping addresses match and the order was paid with 3D Secure | Fight | It supports a fraud claim being wrong |
| The parcel is stuck in transit and never scanned as delivered | Accept and refund | You have nothing that proves delivery |
| You agreed to a refund and never sent it | Accept | The customer's claim is correct |
ChargeFix gives each Shopify chargeback in Canada a plain verdict: worth fighting, improve the evidence first, or weak evidence. It never invents a win rate. If you want to do the sums yourself, the free Should I fight this chargeback? calculator works out your break even point.
What Shopify chargeback evidence will win the case in Canada?
Each Shopify chargeback in Canada is decided by a reviewer who sees a very large number of cases, and Shopify warns that a reviewer may spend only a few minutes on yours. So the winning approach is not the biggest pile of paper. It is the clearest answer to the one thing the customer claimed.
For a Canadian Shopify chargeback, Shopify recommends putting your evidence in this order, with the strongest proof first.
| Order | Type of proof | A Canadian example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Direct proof | A Canada Post tracking screenshot showing delivered status and the same address as the order, or a refund record if you already refunded |
| 2 | Customer acknowledgment | An email from your Toronto buyer asking about sizing two days after the delivery date |
| 3 | Policy documentation | A screenshot of checkout showing the customer accepted your refund and shipping policy |
| 4 | Supporting context | Two earlier undisputed orders from the same customer to the same address |
A few habits help you win a Shopify chargeback by getting your response read instead of skipped.
Match the proof to the reason. If the claim is "not received", a delivery record beats a long story about your brand. If the claim is "I did not make this purchase", address checks, device data and order history matter more than tracking.
Use screenshots, not links. The bank cannot click your links, and Shopify tells merchants to use screenshots of tracking pages and customer messages. It also bans links to outside resources and requests to call or email for more information.
Label every file of Shopify chargeback evidence. "Screenshot" tells the reviewer nothing. A good label tells them what it is, when it happened and what it proves. Here are captions in the style Shopify recommends.
File 1: Carrier tracking page, screenshot taken 12 October 2026. Shows the parcel
delivered on 9 October 2026 at 2:12 pm to the address on the order.
File 2: Order confirmation email sent to the customer on 2 October 2026, itemized
total C$87.00, with the shipping address shown.
File 3: Customer email dated 10 October 2026 asking how to wash the item, sent
the day after delivery.
File 4: Checkout page as the customer saw it, showing the refund and shipping
policy link and the order total before payment.
Put the strongest item first and keep the story short. One clear delivery record is worth more than ten weak attachments when you try to win a Shopify chargeback.
What are the Shopify chargeback evidence file rules?
Many a Shopify chargeback in Canada is lost on format, not on facts. A file that is too large, in the wrong format or split into five attachments may not be read the way you intended. Shopify's Help Center sets these rules for Shopify chargeback evidence.
| Rule | What Shopify says |
|---|---|
| File types | PDF, JPEG or PNG only |
| PDFs | PDF/A compliant, under 50 pages, no PDF Portfolios |
| Size per file | 2 MB at most |
| Size in total | 4 MB at most, all files combined |
| Files per evidence type | One. Merge several files of one type into a single PDF or image |
| Not allowed | Audio, video, links to outside sites, requests to call or email |
| Images | Cropped, high contrast and easy to read, with arrows or callouts if helpful |
How do you handle a product not received dispute and win a Shopify chargeback?
A product not received dispute is the most common claim a physical store meets. Shopify groups several situations under it: the tracking says delivered but the customer says no, the shipment is late or lost, or a digital product or service was not delivered.
For a product not received dispute on physical goods, Shopify lists this evidence.
| Evidence | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Tracking information with the carrier name, number and delivery status | The parcel was shipped and where it ended up |
| Delivery confirmation, ideally with a signature or photo | A person or a place received it |
| Shipping address verification | It went to the address entered at checkout |
| Carrier messages sent to the customer | They were told it was on the way and when it arrived |
If you ship high value orders, ask for a signature at delivery. Shopify says this significantly strengthens your position in a product not received dispute.
Be honest about your own records. If the parcel is genuinely lost, because the last scan is hundreds of kilometres from the customer and nothing says delivered, refund the customer and move on. A lost parcel is a business cost, not a Canadian Shopify chargeback worth fighting. If delivery went to a neighbour, a locker or a front desk, say so, because it explains why the buyer may not have seen it.
Here is a chargeback rebuttal letter for a product not received dispute on a delivered parcel. Only include lines your records support.
Re: Chargeback [case number], order #[number], C$87.00, product not received
The cardholder reports that this order was not received. Our records show otherwise.
1. The order was placed on 2 October 2026 and shipped on 5 October 2026 with
tracking number [number] through [carrier].
2. The carrier recorded delivery on 9 October 2026 at 2:12 pm to [street, city,
province, postal code], the shipping address entered at checkout (File 1).
3. The billing and shipping addresses on the order match (File 2).
4. On 10 October 2026 the customer emailed us about [topic], a day after the
delivery date (File 3).
5. Our shipping policy, shown at checkout, says [one sentence] (File 4).
6. The customer did not contact us about a missing parcel before disputing.
We ask that the dispute be decided in our favour.
Can you win a Shopify chargeback over a fraudulent transaction?
A fraudulent transaction dispute means the cardholder says they did not authorize the purchase. It might be a stolen card. It might be a family member who used the card. It might be a customer who did not recognize the name on their statement.
Shopify's Help Center says you win these by showing that the real cardholder placed the order. The strongest proof is matching addresses, device or location data that fits the customer's earlier orders, and delivery confirmation to the billing address.
| Evidence | What it shows | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|
| AVS and CVV results | The billing address and the security code matched the card | The payment details on the order |
| Device and IP data | The order came from a place and device that fit the customer | The order details in Shopify |
| 3D Secure result | The customer completed an extra check such as a one time code | The payment verification record |
| Order history | The same customer or address has bought before without a problem | Your customer record |
| Delivery confirmation | The goods reached the verified address | The carrier record |
| Customer messages | The customer talked about the order after placing it | Your inbox and chat tools |
Two Canadian points matter here. Shopify Protect, the program that reimburses eligible fraud chargebacks, only covers US stores with a US Shopify Payments account. If you run a store in Canada, you are not covered, so your own evidence does the work. And Shopify's guidance on withdrawal letters says it cannot request early resolution for Visa disputes with a Fraudulent reason code or for American Express disputes. Plan on the full review time.
Which evidence helps you win a Shopify chargeback in the other five dispute types?
Shopify sorts chargebacks into seven categories. You have now seen two. Here are the other five, with the evidence Shopify says belongs in each.
| Category | What the customer claims | Lead with | Add if you have it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product unacceptable | The item is damaged, defective or not as described | The listing as it looked at the time of purchase | Photos taken before shipping, support messages, your return policy |
| Credit not processed | A promised refund never arrived | The refund transaction record with date and amount | Bank or processor statement, return tracking, your policy |
| Duplicate charge | They were charged twice | Transaction logs showing one charge, or separate orders | Order number and timestamp comparison, an explanation of a temporary hold |
| Subscription canceled | They were billed after cancelling | The subscription agreement and cancellation policy | Usage logs, renewal reminders, proof that no cancellation request exists |
| General | The amount or a fee is not what they expected | An itemized receipt and the checkout confirmation | Your pricing policy, exchange rate details for foreign cards |
Two notes cover most of these. For a product unacceptable dispute, show that the customer never contacted you first, and offer a refund anyway, since it shows good service. For credit not processed, the refund record decides everything, including cases where the refund was sent but has not reached the statement yet. A duplicate charge is often only a temporary authorization hold, so explain it with timestamps. On a subscription canceled claim, show what the customer agreed to and that no cancellation was completed. For a general dispute, an itemized receipt solves most claims, because tax, shipping and currency conversion cause the surprises.
How do you write a chargeback rebuttal letter the bank will read?
A chargeback rebuttal letter is not a speech. It is a short index to your proof. The reviewer reads the letter to find out where to look, then looks at the files. If the letter claims something the files cannot show, you lose trust for the whole case.
| Part | What to write | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Case line | Case number, order number, amount, reason | One line |
| The claim | The customer's claim in one sentence, in neutral words | One sentence |
| The facts | A numbered list of dated events, each pointing to a file | 4 to 7 lines |
| The policy | The single policy sentence that applies, with where the customer saw it | One or two lines |
| The ask | That the dispute be decided in your favour | One line |
Follow these rules and your chargeback rebuttal letter will do its job.
- State only what your records show. If you cannot prove a line, cut it.
- Use dates and times, not words like "recently" or "quickly".
- Refer to files by their label so the reviewer can find them in seconds.
- Keep the tone flat and factual. Shopify's guidance is clear that the evidence persuades, not the writing.
- Do not argue with the customer's character. Stick to the transaction.
ChargeFix writes its chargeback rebuttal letter from facts in your records and leaves out what it cannot verify. If a signature is not on record, the draft does not claim one. You can still edit the letter before it is saved or filed.
How does ChargeFix help you win a Shopify chargeback on time?
The hard part of a Shopify chargeback in Canada is rarely the argument. It is collecting the proof from five places before a deadline you did not choose. ChargeFix is built to do that for every Shopify Payments chargeback.
Here is how a case moves.
- The dispute arrives. ChargeFix fetches the chargeback the moment it opens. You forward nothing.
- The proof is gathered. It reads the order, payment details, billing and shipping addresses, tracking and delivery status from your store.
- The case is scored. Every item is checked: delivery, address match, order details, your policies and customer messages. You see what is found, what matches and what is missing, with the fix next to each gap.
- You get a plain verdict. Worth fighting, improve the evidence first, or weak evidence.
- The chargeback rebuttal letter is drafted. It uses only facts from your records. Anything it cannot verify is left out.
- You add what only you have. Attach delivery photos, customer email screenshots or PDFs. Your refund and shipping policies are added to every response.
- You choose how it files. Manual mode is the default: you review, edit and click file. Auto mode files only the dispute types you choose, and only when your own rules are met, such as a minimum evidence score, an amount limit and confirmed delivery. Out of the box it covers product not received disputes with delivery confirmed. Everything else is saved as a draft for you.
The point of all this is timing and completeness. To win a Shopify chargeback, send a case that arrives early, with the strongest proof first and a clean letter. A case that arrives at midnight on the last day, with half the proof missing, rarely gets a fair read.
A few honest limits. ChargeFix cannot promise that you will win a Shopify chargeback, because the bank decides. It works with a Shopify Payments chargeback only, not Stripe or PayPal. And it makes your response complete and clear, but it cannot invent proof that does not exist.
On privacy, ChargeFix reads order details while you review a case and does not store customer names, addresses, emails or letters. Only the case you are reviewing goes to an AI provider, and only to write the letter. You grant access through Shopify permissions when you install, and the data processing agreement is public at chargefix.pro/dpa.
What should you do if the customer says they will cancel the chargeback?
Sometimes the customer behind a Shopify chargeback in Canada replies to your email and says they will call the bank and drop it. That is good news, but it is not a result yet. Shopify says only the customer can reverse a chargeback, and the dispute often involves more than one banking entity, so it can stay open in your admin after the customer thinks it is finished.
Two rules follow.
Submit evidence anyway. Shopify says to submit evidence in every Shopify chargeback in Canada, even when the customer says they cancelled it. Do not assume it is over.
Get the withdrawal letter. The customer must obtain an official letter from their bank. A screenshot of a bank statement is not enough. The letter must:
- Be on official bank letterhead.
- Show the case number.
- Confirm the original charge date and amount.
- Confirm your store or business name.
- Confirm that the chargeback has been cancelled.
- Confirm that the funds have been re-debited from the customer's account.
- Confirm that the funds have been returned to you.
Submit the letter as evidence on the chargeback response form. The banks then take time to update the case, which Shopify says can run 30 to 90 days.
You also cannot refund an order once a chargeback has begun. If the customer wants a refund as part of the deal, they must drop the dispute first, and you refund after it resolves. Set that expectation up front, so they do not feel brushed off. This email does it politely.
Subject: Your order #[number] and the dispute with your bank
Hi [first name],
Thank you for getting in touch. I am sorry the order caused trouble.
I would like to put this right. Because your bank has already opened a dispute,
I cannot send a refund until the dispute is withdrawn. If you are happy to
withdraw it, please ask your bank for an official withdrawal letter on their
letterhead showing the case number, the charge date and amount, and that the
dispute has been cancelled.
Once I receive the letter and the dispute closes, I will refund the order in
full. Banks usually take a few weeks to update, and I will keep you informed.
Thank you,
[your name]
What happens after you submit a Shopify Payments chargeback response?
The review can take up to 75 days. If the bank provides an issuer claim, Shopify shows a summary and the document on the order page. If you lose and a response is available, you may be able to read why. Not every dispute includes these documents, because it depends on the bank and the card network.
If you win a Shopify chargeback, the money returns with your next payout. Even then, the story may not be over. Shopify warns that a bank can dispute the same transaction again after you win, and a new evidence deadline appears in your admin. Treat that second round like the first: submit your strongest evidence early.
There is no appeal on a Shopify chargeback in Canada once the decision is final. That is the main reason to put the effort in before you submit, not after.
What does a plan to win a Shopify chargeback look like, day by day?
Here is a plan for a Canadian Shopify chargeback, counted from the day the dispute opens. It assumes the shortest window, 7 days. If your banner shows 14 or 21, you simply have more buffer.
| Day | What you do | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0 | The Shopify Payments chargeback opens. The amount and fee leave your balance. Shopify emails your store contact address. | You have seen the email |
| Day 1 | Read the banner: reason and due date. Read the issuer claim if one is shown. Decide to fight or accept. Do not refund. | The decision is written down |
| Day 2 | Collect proof. ChargeFix pulls store data. You add what is outside the store. | Every checklist item is found or marked missing |
| Day 3 | Fill the gaps: carrier record from the courier site, customer emails and chat screenshots, listing screenshots. Save files under 2 MB each. | Files are labelled and fit the limits |
| Day 4 | Draft and edit the chargeback rebuttal letter. Check it against the files. | Every line points to a file |
| Day 5 | File the response. | Submission is confirmed in your admin |
| Days 6 and 7 | Buffer for surprises. | Nothing left to do |
| Weeks 2 to 11 | Wait for the card company. Watch for a second dispute. | A decision arrives |
What is different about a Shopify chargeback in Canada?
Most chargeback advice online is written for the United States, with a few UK examples. These are the points that matter if you want a better result on a Canadian Shopify chargeback.
| Topic | What applies in Canada | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Fee currency | C$15 or US$15, by payout currency | Know which payout currency you chose, and budget the fee in that currency |
| Fee on a win | Returned | Count it as money you recover, not a sunk cost |
| Not enough balance | Taken from your bank account between payouts | Keep funds available, since a failed debit leads to a second attempt |
| Failed debit | A second attempt after 3 business days | If that fails, update your bank details or ask Shopify Support how to repay |
| Shopify Protect | US stores only | Do not rely on it, build your own evidence |
| Visa monitoring | A 1.5% limit applies in most regions since April 2026 | Check your ratio monthly |
Your bank account and the second attempt. If your Shopify Payments balance cannot cover a chargeback, Shopify debits the difference from your bank account, outside your normal payout schedule. If that fails, it tries again after 3 business days. If that also fails, you must update the bank account on file or contact Shopify Support to repay the negative balance. A chargeback that lands during a quiet week can therefore hit your bank account directly.
The takeaway is practical. Every Canadian Shopify chargeback counts toward your rate, so winning single disputes is good, but a lower rate protects your whole account. The free Visa VAMP ratio calculator shows where you stand.
Where to complain if you think the process was unfair. Canada has a Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry, overseen by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC). Merchants can raise Code complaints with their payment processor, and Shopify Payments (Canada) publishes its own process: it acknowledges a complaint within 5 business days and gives a final written decision within 45 days. FCAC supervises compliance with the Code, but it is not a dispute resolution agency for individual cases, so it will not overturn a chargeback. Your evidence, filed early, remains your strongest tool.
What are the 10 mistakes that lose Shopify chargebacks in Canada?
- Trusting the automatic response. Shopify sends order data on the due date if you do nothing. That is a minimum, not a case.
- Starting on the last day. A courier site that is down, a customer who does not reply, or a login problem can end your Shopify chargeback in Canada. Aim to file by day 5, well inside the chargeback response deadline.
- Clicking Submit now with gaps. Submitting early locks your evidence. File early, but only after the pack is complete.
- Sending links. Banks cannot follow them, and Shopify bans external links. Send screenshots.
- Breaking the rules for Shopify chargeback evidence. Files over 2 MB, more than 4 MB in total, several files for one evidence type, or the wrong format can undo good proof.
- Arguing the wrong reason. A long defence of your product quality does not answer a product not received dispute. Match the proof to the claim.
- Refunding after the chargeback opens. Shopify does not let you refund an order once a chargeback has begun. The customer has to drop the dispute first.
- Believing "I cancelled it" and stopping. The dispute can stay open in your admin. Submit evidence and get the official withdrawal letter.
- Putting claims you cannot prove in your chargeback rebuttal letter. "Signed for by the customer" with no signature on record damages the lines that are true.
- Forgetting the rate. A win on a Shopify Payments chargeback does not remove the dispute from your rate. Fix the causes: unclear descriptions, slow replies and missing tracking.
FAQs
How long do I have to respond to a Shopify chargeback in Canada?
Your chargeback response deadline is usually 7 to 21 days from the day the dispute is filed. The exact date and time show on the chargeback banner in your Shopify admin, in your store's time zone. If no time is shown, the deadline is 11:59 PM that day. After it passes, you cannot add evidence, and Shopify makes no exceptions.
Do I get the fee back if I win a Shopify chargeback?
Yes. For Canadian stores the fee is C$15, or US$15 if you are paid out in US dollars, and it is returned if you win. You also get the disputed amount back in your next payout after the decision. If you accept the chargeback, the fee is not refunded. On a partial win, Shopify says it might refund the fee.
What happens if I do not respond to a Shopify chargeback in Canada?
Shopify sends a response on the due date made only of the order information it already holds, such as addresses, tracking and earlier orders. That minimum rarely covers your emails, your policy agreement or a clear explanation. Without your own evidence, you are far more likely to lose a Shopify chargeback in Canada, along with the amount and the fee.
Can I refund the customer after a chargeback starts?
No. Shopify does not allow a refund once the chargeback process has begun, because the bank has already taken the funds. The customer can ask their bank to withdraw the dispute. After it resolves, you can refund. If only an inquiry is open, a full refund is possible and ends it.
What file types and sizes can I upload as Shopify chargeback evidence?
Shopify accepts PDF, JPEG and PNG files. Each file can be up to 2 MB, and all files together can be up to 4 MB. You can submit only one file per evidence type, so merge related documents into a single PDF. Audio, video and links to outside sites are not allowed.
Is Shopify Protect available to Canadian stores?
No. Shopify Protect requires the store to be located in the United States and to have a United States Shopify Payments account. It also covers only eligible Shop Pay orders. A store in Canada is not eligible, so your own evidence has to carry the case, which is where a tool like ChargeFix helps.
Does a won Shopify chargeback in Canada lower my chargeback rate?
No. Shopify says your chargeback rate is based on the number of disputes filed, not their outcomes, so a won dispute still counts. That is why prevention matters. Clear product descriptions, quick replies and reliable tracking reduce the number of disputes, which protects your account and your payouts.
What happens if my bank account cannot cover a Shopify Payments chargeback?
If your Shopify Payments balance is too low, Shopify debits the shortfall from your bank account, outside your usual payout schedule. If that debit fails, it tries again after 3 business days. If it fails again, update the bank account on file or contact Shopify Support to repay the negative balance.
Can Shopify or FCAC overturn a chargeback decision?
No to both. Shopify says the bank and card company decide, and that it cannot overturn the result. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada supervises the card industry Code of Conduct, but it is not a dispute resolution agency for individual cases. That is why the evidence you file before the deadline matters so much.
Should ChargeFix handle my Shopify chargeback in Canada?
If you want the proof gathered from your store, a clear verdict, a letter drafted from verified facts and the response filed before the deadline, yes. ChargeFix helps with a Shopify chargeback in Canada by filing a complete case on time, and it works with Shopify Payments disputes. You can review everything in Manual mode, or let Auto mode file only the cases that meet your rules. It cannot promise a win.
