Should I Fight This Chargeback?

Not every dispute is worth your time. Enter the amount and your honest chance of winning, and see whether fighting is expected to cost you less than accepting.

Worth fighting

At a 50% chance, fighting is expected to cost you £32.50 less than accepting.

If you accept-£95.00Amount plus fee
If you fight (expected)-£62.50Includes your time
Break-even win chance16%Above this, fighting is cheaper than accepting

Accepting loses the amount and the fee for certain. Fighting loses them only if you lose, and always costs your time. This is an expected value, not a prediction for one case.

How it works

  1. Accepting costs the disputed amount plus the fee, for certain.
  2. Fighting costs the same only if you lose, plus the time you spend. If you win, you keep the amount and, where it applies, get the fee back.
  3. The break-even win chance is the point where both options cost the same. Above it, fighting is cheaper.

Questions

How do I estimate my chance of winning?

Be honest. Confirmed delivery to the same address as the card billing address is strong evidence. A missing tracking number or a mismatched address lowers it. ChargeFix's evidence score is built to help with this.

Does the result guarantee an outcome?

No. It is an expected value across many cases, not a prediction for one dispute. The bank decides.

Is the fee refunded on a win?

Shopify lists the chargeback fee by country, for example £10 in the UK, $15 in the US and €15 in the euro area. Shopify says the fee may be refunded if you win, depending on your country. Check your own payout line items.
