Looking for a Chargeflow alternative? An honest guide for Australian Shopify stores

ChargeFix guide cover with a lightning bolt icon: Looking for a Chargeflow alternative? An honest guide for Australian Shopify stores

You have an A$220 dispute open, you have read that Chargeflow takes 25% of what it recovers, and you have just worked out that winning this one would cost you A$55. Is that a fair price for not doing the work yourself, or is there a better Chargeflow alternative for an Australian store like yours? Both answers are possible, and the right one depends on facts about your store that sales pages rarely ask about.

The best Chargeflow alternative for an Australian Shopify store depends on why you are looking. If the worry is a percentage fee that grows as you win more, look at flat-fee tools. If the worry is payment coverage, check which tool reads your PayPal or Stripe disputes. If the worry is control, look for one where nothing is filed until you approve it. And if you only get a couple of disputes a month, the best alternative may be a free plan or a better routine.

This guide is for you if:

  • You run an Australian Shopify store, you have installed Chargeflow or are about to, and you want a fair comparison before the fees add up.
  • You pay a percentage of recovered disputes and want to know at what point a flat monthly bill would be cheaper, worked out in Australian dollars.
  • You want to move to a Chargeflow alternative without missing a due date or filing the same dispute twice.

Last updated: 22 October 2026. Written by the ChargeFix team. Reviewed against sources on 22 October 2026. General information, not legal or financial advice.

Disclosure. ChargeFix is one of the Chargeflow alternatives in this guide, so I have an interest. I have tried to be fair to Chargeflow, which makes a capable product, and to say clearly where ChargeFix does not fit. Every Chargeflow figure comes from a public page, listed in the sources with dates.

The 30-second answer (TL;DR)

  • Chargeflow is the broadest tool in this space: recovery, alerts and prevention, over 50 payment providers, and a 4.5 rating from 428 App Store reviews. Many stores should stay.
  • Its recovery fee is 25% of what it recovers, so the bill rises as you win more. A flat monthly fee overtakes it once you recover about four times that fee in a month.
  • A Chargeflow alternative makes sense if you want a predictable bill, only use Shopify Payments, or want to approve every filing yourself.
  • It does not make sense if you need PayPal or Stripe coverage, card-network alerts or fraud screening from one tool.
  • Read the terms, not just the pricing page. Chargeflow's terms from May 2026 include USD billing, a possible deposit and an 8% fee for disconnecting after a dispute opens.
  • Whichever Chargeflow alternative you pick, never run two tools on the same dispute. Switch between disputes, not during one.

Do this today (10 minutes):

  1. Open your Chargeflow dashboard and write down what you paid in the last three months, split into recovery fees, alert fees and scan fees.
  2. In Shopify admin, list your open disputes and their due dates.
  3. Write down which payment providers your disputes came through. If any are not Shopify Payments, mark them.

Those three notes tell you whether a Chargeflow alternative could even work for you.

From dispute to decision

Stage What happens Where your tool matters
Alert A card network warns you a charge is queried Alerts can turn it into a refund
Dispute opens Shopify takes the amount and a fee (A$25 in Australia) and shows a due date Evidence gathering starts
Response A letter and evidence go to the bank Manual, or automatic filing
Decision The bank rules under network rules No tool controls this
Fee The tool bills you Percentage of recovery, per alert, or flat

What does Chargeflow do well, before you look for a Chargeflow alternative?

Start with the honest picture, because switching tools has a cost and it helps to know what you would leave behind.

What it offers What the public sources say
Recovery (Automation) Builds and submits evidence automatically. The fee is 25% of recovered disputes, where recovered means the issuer ruled for you and the funds came back. Its pricing page says the fee does not include the Shopify dispute fee
Alerts Card-network alerts that let you refund before a dispute is filed, quoted at US$29 per deflected chargeback in a July 2026 comparison
Prevent Order screening, free for the first 1,000 scanned transactions. The price after that differs by source: its pricing page showed $0.1, while its App Store listing and a July 2026 comparison say $0.20
Insights A free analytics dashboard
Reach 50+ integrations on its App Store listing, including Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, Braintree, Klarna, Affirm, Afterpay and Recharge. Its site now says 100+ processors and platforms
Reviews 4.5 from 428 Shopify App Store reviews: 390 five-star, 5 four-star, 1 three-star, 3 two-star and 29 one-star

Do the sum on those reviews. Roughly 91% are five-star and roughly 7% are one-star. That is a strong record for a Shopify app, and it says most merchants are happy.

Two limits are worth knowing. The "300% increase in win rate" on its marketing is a vendor claim, and the independent-minded comparison I used says win-rate claims across this market are not audited consistently. And Chargeflow is a US company, so its pricing is in US dollars. I could not confirm whether it bills Australian stores in AUD, or how it supports them, so ask before you rely on either.

So the question is not whether Chargeflow is good. It is whether it is the best fit for your store, at your volume, with your payment gateways.

Why do Australian stores look for a Chargeflow alternative?

I have grouped the reasons for choosing a Chargeflow alternative into seven. Each comes with a test, so you can check whether it applies to you rather than take my word for it.

Reason The test If yes
The fee grows as you win more Multiply your monthly recovered amount by 25%. Is that more than a flat-fee tool would cost? Compare a flat monthly fee
You want a predictable bill Do your monthly costs swing with recovery? Flat-fee tools give you one number
You are billed in US dollars Do currency conversion costs on every charge bother you? Ask any vendor about AUD billing
You only use Shopify Payments Do all your disputes come through it? A narrower tool may be enough
You want to approve each filing Do you want to read every response before it goes? Look for a manual-first mode
You do not need alerts or screening Are your disputes mostly parcels? You may be paying for features you will not use
You get very few disputes Fewer than two or three a month? A free plan or a written checklist may do

If none of those is true, you do not need a Chargeflow alternative, so stay where you are. If two or three are, keep reading.

What do Chargeflow's terms and reviews say that the sales page does not?

Pricing pages show the headline. The terms of service show the rest, and they are worth reading before you commit to any vendor, not only this one. These are the points from Chargeflow's terms of service, last updated 4 May 2026, with clause numbers so you can check them yourself.

Topic What the terms say Clause
What counts as a success Recovered funds, a chargeback marked "won" by the payment platform, or a chargeback prevented by Chargeflow 2.17
When the fee is due Immediately on a successful chargeback 6.2
Reversed wins Not addressed None
Fee refunds No refund right stated 6.6
Currency All transactions are processed in USD, and card issuer conversion fees are yours 6.9.3
Deposit Enrolment can involve a temporary authorised payment and a deposit described as a reserve fund that can rise with volume, to be topped up within 7 days if used 6.9
Late payment 7 days after notice, then services stop. Interest is the lesser of 1.5% a month or the legal maximum, plus collection costs 6.11
Leaving with a dispute open If a store is disconnected after a dispute was opened, 8% of the chargeback value is owed 6.7
Ending the agreement 30 days' notice, except during a commitment or trial period 12.2
Data after termination I found no clause on deletion or return of data None

None of this is unusual for a usage-based contract, and it should shape how you judge any Chargeflow alternative. The pricing page says there are no contracts or minimums. But the 8% disconnection fee and the missing deletion clause affect anyone switching, which is why the plan below is built around them. If you signed an Order Form with a commitment period, that document governs, so read it.

The reviews add a related picture, with a caution. Of 428 App Store reviews, 29 are one-star. I read the 20 visible one-star reviews, dated October 2025 to October 2026. The themes were fees (charges above the advertised rate, a $29 charge with no visible action, a $100 authorisation hold, double billing), results (some merchants report few or no wins), generic-sounding responses, cases filed before the deadline so the merchant could not add their own evidence, slow support, and a hard-to-find cancel option. These are individual claims that I cannot verify, and the 390 five-star reviews say many merchants are happy. What the one-star reviews are good for is a list of questions to ask any vendor: how is each fee calculated, can I review before you file, and where is the cancel button?

How much does Chargeflow cost at your volume?

The headline is a 25% success fee on recovered disputes. Any fair Chargeflow alternative comparison starts from your own recovered amount, so here is the arithmetic in Australian dollars. The flat fee in the table is made up to show the method and is not any vendor's price. I have also not converted Chargeflow's USD pricing, so read the 25% column as a percentage of what you recover.

Recovered in the month () 25% (Chargeflow Automation) 20% (Disputifier-style) Made-up flat fee 45
150 37.50 30.00 45.00
450 112.50 90.00 45.00
900 225.00 180.00 45.00
1,800 450.00 360.00 45.00
4,500 1,125.00 900.00 45.00

At 25%, a flat monthly fee of A$45 becomes the cheaper option once you recover more than A$180 in a month (A$180 times 25% is A$45). At 20% the break-even is A$225. Below those amounts the success fee wins.

Two cautions. Flat plans tend to step up with volume, so check the plan that matches your number of filings, not the cheapest one on the page. And a fee comparison only counts the recovery product. If you also use alerts or scanning, add those.

Alerts. At US$29 per deflected chargeback, 40 alerts in a month is US$1,160. An alert usually ends in a refund, so you lose the sale as well as paying the fee. A fought dispute that you win keeps the sale and costs a success fee. Alerts make sense when your chance of winning is low, such as an "I don't recognise this charge" dispute with no way to prove the customer ordered. They make less sense for a parcel that Australia Post tracking shows delivered, where you would probably win anyway.

Scanning. If you scan 2,500 orders in a month and the first 1,000 are free, that is 1,500 chargeable orders, which is US$300 at $0.20 or US$150 at $0.10. Sources disagree on the price, and the pricing page does not say whether the free allowance resets monthly, so confirm both before you rely on this.

Which Chargeflow alternative should you consider?

ChargeFix

As a Chargeflow alternative, I will describe ours the way I would describe a competitor's. It works on Shopify Payments disputes only. When a dispute opens it pulls the order, address, tracking and delivery records from your store, scores the evidence item by item, drafts the letter from your real records and gives a "worth fighting?" verdict. In Manual mode nothing goes to the bank until you review and send it. Auto filing is optional, off until you turn it on, and files only the dispute types and rules you set.

Auto filing can be set per dispute type, with a minimum evidence level, an amount above which you always review, and an option to wait for carrier-confirmed delivery. Anything that does not match your rules is saved as a draft. Two limits: once a response is filed with the bank it cannot be changed, and ChargeFix sees only Shopify Payments disputes and the last 60 days of orders. Support replies by email, usually within one business day.

Pick it if your disputes come through Shopify Payments, you want a steady monthly bill, and you want to approve each filing. Skip it if you take PayPal or run Stripe separately, or you need card-network alerts or fraud screening. As far as its public page shows, ChargeFix sells neither.

Disputifier

The long-standing budget Chargeflow alternative, at 20% of recovered revenue with a US$250 cap per recovery and no subscriptions or minimums. Its integrations page lists Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal and about 35 other platforms, and its App Store listing has a 4.7 rating from 135 reviews. It supports alerts and adds shipping notifications aimed at "item not received" disputes. Pick it if you want a cheaper percentage with a cap and need alerts. Skip it if you want a flat monthly bill, since the fee still grows with the number of wins.

ChargePay

A flat-fee Chargeflow alternative with a 30-day trial. A May 2026 roundup quotes an 85% win rate over 80,000 cases, which is the vendor's own claim, and the 5.0 rating rests on 26 reviews. Pick it if you want a flat bill and are willing to test a newer name. Skip it if you want a long public track record.

Redo Reclaim

Redo says it charges nothing for recovery, because it runs on infrastructure it already operates. The comparison that says so was written by Redo, which discloses that. Pick it if you want to test a free option alongside another tool. Skip it if you want independent reviews before you trust it with live disputes.

Shopify's own automatic response

Before paying for any Chargeflow alternative, know what you already have. For Shopify Payments disputes, if you add no evidence yourself, Shopify submits what it has collected on the due date: product details, customer name and email, billing and shipping addresses, IP address, fulfilment and tracking details, refund records and order history. Shopify's July 2026 guide says its Automated Dispute Response lifts win rates from a 20% baseline to 37%. That is Shopify's claim for Shopify Payments transactions, and I cannot verify it. A paid Chargeflow alternative earns its place by beating that baseline on your disputes, through better evidence, a tailored letter and, for tools that offer them, alerts. One rule matters here: if you submit early you cannot edit afterwards, so do not click Submit until the evidence is complete.

Pick it if your disputes are few and the free baseline is enough. Skip it if you need a tailored letter, a strength score before you file, or coverage beyond Shopify Payments.

Alerts-only and prevention tools

If your problem is "I don't recognise this charge" or fraud, you may not need a different recovery tool at all. You may need alerts or screening. For the wider market see our guide to choosing a chargeback app, and for what to hand to software see our guide on chargeback automation.

Which Chargeflow alternative fits which reason?

Match the reason you found earlier to a type of Chargeflow alternative. I have left out brand names where the answer is a type.

Your reason Look at Watch out for
The fee grows with wins A flat-fee tool, or a cheaper success fee Flat plans that step up with filings
I need a predictable bill A flat-fee tool Overage charges
I use PayPal or Stripe as well Stay with a broad tool, or pair tools A narrow tool that cannot see them
I want to approve every filing A manual-first tool Auto filing switched on by default
I mostly get parcel disputes A recovery tool Paying for alerts or scanning you will not use
I mostly get fraud disputes Prevention plus recovery A recovery-only tool
I get one or two a month Shopify's automatic response, a free plan, or a written checklist Paying monthly for something idle

Is ChargeFix a Chargeflow alternative for your store?

Let me be direct, because this is the section where I am least neutral. ChargeFix is a good Chargeflow alternative for some stores and the wrong one for others.

Situation Is ChargeFix a fit?
All disputes come through Shopify Payments Yes, this is its job
You take PayPal or Stripe disputes you want handled No, it cannot read them
You want a flat monthly fee Yes
You want to read and approve every response Yes, Manual mode is the default
You want alerts or fraud screening in one tool No, it does not offer them as far as its public page shows
You want a free plan to test with Yes, 2 filings a month
You want the most-reviewed tool on the App Store No, Chargeflow has far more reviews

You give up breadth when you move from Chargeflow to a narrower Chargeflow alternative. You gain a flat bill and tighter control. For a store whose disputes are mostly delivery problems on Shopify Payments, that is often a good trade. For a store with fraud, PayPal and alerts to manage, it is not.

What does this look like for three Australian stores?

These stores and numbers are made up to show the method. They are not real merchants.

Coastal Candle Co. Shopify Payments only, 12 disputes a month at about A$110. It fights 9 and wins 5, recovering A$550 in total. At 25% the bill is A$137.50 a month, and at 20% it is A$110. With a made-up A$45 flat fee it is A$45, a saving of A$92.50 a month, or A$1,110 a year, against Chargeflow. Nothing here needs PayPal or alerts, which makes it the store most likely to gain from a flat-fee Chargeflow alternative.

Outback Audio. Shopify Payments and PayPal. Its 30 monthly disputes average about A$250, and of those it fights 20 and wins 11, recovering A$2,750. At 25% that is A$687.50. At 20% it is A$550. About a third of its disputes arrive through PayPal, so a Shopify Payments-only tool would see roughly A$1,833 of the recovery and leave about A$917 to do by hand. Switching to a narrow Chargeflow alternative saves money on paper, but only if the PayPal disputes are manageable. A broad tool, or a pairing, is the safer Chargeflow alternative.

Little Wattle. A new store with two small disputes each month, around A$60 each. It fights one and wins it, recovering A$60. At 25% that is A$15. A flat fee would cost more than the recovery. The best Chargeflow alternative here is a free plan plus a written checklist.

How do you switch without missing a due date?

Switching is where merchants get hurt, because a dispute has a deadline and a tool change in the middle of one is how deadlines are missed. The rule is simple: do not move a dispute that is already in progress. Let the current tool finish what it has, and use the new Chargeflow alternative for disputes that arrive after the switch.

Here is a dated plan that assumes you start on Thursday 22 October 2026.

Date Task Why
Thu 22 Oct List open disputes, their due dates and which tool is handling each You need to know what is in flight
Fri 23 Oct Read your Order Form and the terms: notice period, any deposit, and the 8% fee for disconnecting with a dispute open (clause 6.7 of Chargeflow's terms) Avoid surprises on the last invoice
Mon 26 Oct Email your current vendor the questions below Get answers in writing
Tue 27 Oct Install the Chargeflow alternative in Manual mode and connect it Do not turn on auto filing yet
Wed 28 Oct Run one old, closed dispute through the Chargeflow alternative Compare its evidence with what you filed
Thu 29 Oct Read the draft and check every claim against your records The most important test
Fri 30 Oct Time the process and note anything missing Your baseline
Mon 2 Nov Let the Chargeflow alternative handle new disputes only Keep old and new apart
Thu 5 Nov Check which old disputes are still open Do not uninstall yet if any are
Mon 9 Nov When every old dispute is closed, uninstall the old tool and confirm data deletion A clean exit

Here is an email to send to a vendor you are leaving. Change the brackets and send it as written.

Subject: Closing my account: questions before I uninstall

Hello,

I am planning to move away from your app on my Australian Shopify store. Before I uninstall, please could you confirm in writing:

1. Whether any fee is due on disputes that are open or under review, whether a disconnection fee applies if I uninstall after a dispute was opened, and what happens to your fee if a dispute I won is later reversed.
2. Whether I can export my dispute history, evidence and settings.
3. How and when you will delete my store's data after I uninstall, and whether you will confirm in writing.
4. Whether cancelling stops all billing, including alerts and scanning, whether any deposit or authorisation hold will be returned, and how many days' notice you need.
5. Whether open disputes continue to be handled until they close.

Thank you,
[Your name]
[Store URL]

Three things to avoid. Do not uninstall the old tool while a dispute is open. Do not turn on auto filing in the Chargeflow alternative on day one. And do not let two tools both file for the same dispute: the second filing can overwrite or confuse the first.

Should you run Chargeflow and a Chargeflow alternative at the same time?

You can, but only if you split the work cleanly. A sensible split is by dispute type or by payment gateway. For example, a broad tool handles PayPal and Stripe, and a narrower one handles Shopify Payments. Another split is by job, where one tool does alerts and the other does recovery.

The unsafe split is both tools watching the same disputes. Each will try to build and file a response, and you will not know which one went to the bank. If you cannot divide the work clearly, use one tool.

What should you check about data before you uninstall or install?

Moving to a Chargeflow alternative touches your customers' personal information twice: the data the old tool already holds and the data the new one will read. Whether the Privacy Act applies to your business depends on its size and activities, so check with the OAIC or an adviser. If it does, the OAIC's guidance on cross-border disclosure (APP 8) is the relevant starting point.

  • Cross-border data. The OAIC says that before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient, an organisation must take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient does not breach the Australian Privacy Principles, usually through an enforceable contract, and it can remain accountable if they do. Using an overseas contractor to perform a service is generally a disclosure. Chargeflow reports AWS us-east-1 as its primary hosting and EU hosting on request for enterprise customers, so treat hosting as a real question.
  • Old tool. As far as I could find, Chargeflow's terms have no clause on deletion or return of data after termination, so ask in writing. The email above covers it.
  • New Chargeflow alternative. Read the install screen to see what it asks for. Find out what it stores, which sub-processors it uses, whether it uses customer data to train any AI model, and whether it publishes a data processing agreement.
  • Evidence. Never send more customer information to a bank than the dispute needs.

For ChargeFix, the privacy policy and data processing agreement say it acts as your processor and stores the case ID, amount, reason, status, dates and shop settings. Customer names, emails, addresses and letters are read from Shopify only while you review a case and are not stored. Its sub-processors are Shopify, Supabase for the database, an unnamed cloud host, OpenAI or Anthropic for drafting, and optionally EasyPost for delivery lookups. Customer content is not used to train the AI models, breaches are notified within 72 hours, and data is deleted when Shopify's shop-removal notice arrives after uninstall. Things its own documents do not say: which AI provider it uses, where it hosts data, and fixed retention periods. Ask any vendor those three questions, including us at contact@chargefix.pro.

What is different for Australian merchants?

  • Currency. Chargeflow and Disputifier list prices in US dollars. Ask about AUD billing and expect exchange costs.
  • Dispute fee. Shopify's Australian dispute fee is A$25 and is returned if you win, per Shopify's help centre. It is separate from any app fee.
  • Shopify Protect. Shopify's help centre says you must be located in the United States, so Australian merchants have no free guarantee to fall back on while they compare tools.
  • Australian carriers. Evidence usually means Australia Post, StarTrack, Sendle or Couriers Please scans. Test any tool with an Australian dispute before you trust it.
  • Support hours. Check when a US-based vendor answers. A reply that arrives after your due date is no use.
  • Time zones. Deadlines are shown in Shopify. Check the time on the dispute so you do not lose a day to conversion.

What I could not verify: whether Chargeflow lets you review a response before it files, its AUD billing and Australian support, the conditions of its 4x ROI guarantee, which per-scan price applies, and what happens to its fee if a won case is reversed, since its terms do not say. I also could not read Wyllo's or Signifyd's terms. And as far as ChargeFix's public pages show, it offers neither alerts nor fraud screening.

What are the common mistakes when choosing a Chargeflow alternative?

  1. Choosing on the fee without doing the sum. Put your own recovered amount through both models first.
  2. Ignoring payment-gateway coverage. A cheaper tool that cannot see your PayPal disputes saves nothing.
  3. Switching mid-dispute. Let open disputes finish with the tool that started them.
  4. Turning on auto filing on day one. Read the first batch of drafts yourself.
  5. Running two tools on the same disputes. Split by gateway or by job, or use one.
  6. Forgetting the exit. Ask about data deletion and any fees still due before you uninstall.
  7. Judging by win rate. Vendors define it differently and nobody audits it.
  8. Paying for features you will not use. If you have no alert-eligible disputes, alerts are wasted money.
  9. Not reading the draft. Every claim must trace to a record you can find.
  10. Assuming there is one best tool. The right Chargeflow alternative fits your gateways, volume and temperament.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Chargeflow alternative for Australian Shopify stores?

It depends on why you are leaving. For a predictable monthly bill on Shopify Payments disputes, a flat-fee tool such as ChargeFix or ChargePay is worth testing. For a lower percentage with alerts, look at Disputifier. If you use PayPal or Stripe, check gateway support first. Test one Chargeflow alternative on your own disputes before committing.

Is Chargeflow worth it for a small Australian store?

Often not at very low volume, because with one or two disputes a month the extra products may go unused. The free tier or a simple routine may be enough. Chargeflow suits stores with several gateways or frequent disputes that want recovery, alerts and prevention together.

How much does Chargeflow cost?

Per its pricing page, recovery is 25% of recovered chargebacks, with no contracts or minimums stated. Alerts are US$29 per deflected chargeback, and scanning is free for the first 1,000 transactions, with sources disagreeing on the price after that. Prices are in US dollars, and the terms say card conversion fees are yours.

Does a flat fee beat a percentage fee?

It depends on how much you recover. At a 25% percentage fee, a flat fee becomes cheaper once you recover more than four times the flat fee in a month. Below that, the percentage is cheaper. Work out your own recovered amount over the last 90 days before deciding.

Can I switch from Chargeflow without losing disputes?

Yes, if you keep open disputes with the tool that started them and use the new Chargeflow alternative only for disputes that arrive after the switch. Do not remove the app until every old dispute is closed, because Chargeflow's terms charge 8% of the chargeback value if a store is disconnected after a dispute was opened. Ask about notice and data deletion in writing.

Does ChargeFix work with PayPal or Stripe?

No. ChargeFix works with Shopify Payments disputes only. If you take PayPal or run a separate Stripe account, it cannot read those disputes, and you should look at a tool with broader gateway coverage. Disputifier and Chargeflow both list PayPal and Stripe among their supported providers.

Can I run Chargeflow and another tool together?

You can, if you divide the work by gateway or by job so no dispute is handled by both. Two tools filing for the same dispute will conflict, and you will not know which response the bank saw. If you cannot split the work cleanly, use one tool.

Are Chargeflow's win-rate claims reliable?

They are the vendor's own, and an independent comparison published in July 2026 notes that win-rate claims in this market are not measured or audited consistently. Definitions vary, selection varies and baselines are not stated. Judge any Chargeflow alternative by whether it saves you time and recovers more than it costs, over a trial.

Do I need alerts as well as a recovery tool?

Only if you get disputes that alerts can catch, such as unrecognised charges. Alerts refund the order before a dispute is filed, so you lose the sale but avoid the fee and the dispute. For parcels that tracking shows delivered, a recovery tool with good evidence usually does more.

Is it safe to give a chargeback tool access to my store?

Check before you install. Look at the permissions screen, what the tool stores, which sub-processors it uses, whether customer data trains any AI model, where data is hosted and whether it publishes a data processing agreement. Overseas hosting can raise Australian Privacy Principle questions, so spend ten minutes before you approve access.
